Alaska Regional Council of Carpenters - Training

The ARCC believes there is no substitute for building a strong safety culture within our union, beginning with our new apprentices on through to every journeyman. The Alaska Regional Council Of Carpenters will bring the highest quality of training to the table to insure that everyone will go home safe at the end of the day.

The ARCC is committed to safety.

Union members have the opportunity and the incentive to learn all there is to know about safety. Every member is encouraged to become certified under OSHA safety training guidelines. We work with our contractors to make safety training a pre-requisite for dispatch to their projects. For most Millwright and Piledriver employers, this safety training is mandatory prior to arrival on the jobsite. We offer OSHA 10, 8 Hour OSHA refresher training, Millwright 16-Hour Health and Safety course, MSHA, and NSTC safety training. Our training centers also provide Contractor/Project specific safety training on request.

Available Safety Training through the ARCC:

• OSHA 10, and 8 Hour OSHA refresher courses are taught by certified instructors that have taken an OSHA 500 class

• MSHA Safety Training in partnership with Mine owners

• First Aid /CPR/AED

• Millwright 16 Hour Health and Safety Course - Millwright specific safety training resulting in an OSHA 10 and Smartmark card

• NSTC - Specialized Petroleum Industry safety training and orientation to work safely in our arctic environment. ARCC is a fully licensed and qualified third party provider of North Slope training (NSTC) classes we use only NSTC-qualified instructors.

• Rough Terrain Forklift - Meets OSHA requirements to operate all types of fork trucks typically used in Alaska.

• Aerial Lift Qualification - Meets OSHA requirements to operate scissor lift and man lift equipment.

• Qualified Scaffold Erector - Meets OSHA requirements to erect, maintain, and inspect all types of scaffolding on your project.

• Hazardous Materials, Confined Space, Blood Borne Pathogen, and more specific safety training is also available on request

Who's Responsible for Safety?

Everyone is responsible. While everyone is familiar with the Employer’s responsibilities under Federal and State Safety legislation, most people think that safety stops there. It doesn't, these same laws assign safety responsibilities to employees, too.

Employees are expected to:

• Comply with all applicable OSHA standards
• Follow the employer’s safety and health rules and regulations
• Wear/use the prescribed personal protective equipment
• Report hazardous conditions to their supervisor
• Report any job-related injury or illness to the employer and seek treatment promptly

We are all responsible for the safety of ourselves, our fellow workers, and the workplace in general.
